The Grateful Dead, The Quicksilver Messenger Service, The New Tweedy Brothers - Avalon Ballroom, San Francisco, 1966
Back in 1966 on this day June 10th with the Grateful Dead, The Quicksilver Messenger Service and The New Tweedy Brothers playing a two day show at Avalon Ballroom in San Francisco. This is Family Dog poster number #12 in their series and was created by the legendary rock artist Wes Wilson... The central image is a drawing of a skeleton with a large skull. This poster is significant historically because it represents the first use of a skeleton as an emblem for the Grateful Dead. It predates the iconic Skeleton and Roses poster by Mouse Studios by several months which became the signature of the Grateful Dead.
