The Cure, Interpol,The Rapture, Mogwai - Home Depot Center, Carson (CA), USA, Aug. 27, 2004
During Curiosa Tour's stop at the Los Angeles area's Home Depot Center on Friday night (8/27), truly visceral performances came from the bands The Cure has inspired. Groups like The Rapture, Interpol and Cursive laid down energized new-wave/post-punk sets. As influenced by The Cure as they are by Joy Division and Bauhaus, Interpol was darkly fascinating. Mogwai's instrumental roars matched the anxiousness of later Cure without the lovelorn lyrics, while the Rapture, another Gotham group, blasted through a half-hour of dance-rock that echoed the spirit of the Cure without the goth doom.
The Cure chose to include another smaller second stage on the bill. Fans discovered Omaha's Cursive, another act that sounds like a younger, more energetic Cure. The UK's Cooper Temple Clause provided a gut-busting set of hard rock that made the second stage buzz with fervor.
