Benny Goodman and Louis Armstrong - Rochester Auditorium, New York, 1953
Two of the biggest maestros of the jazz age, Benny Goodman and Louis Armstrong, take the stage with a swinging list of all-star musicians featuring the likes of Gene Krupa, Teddy Wilson, Helen Ward, and Joe Bushkin. It was in 1953 for a two evening shows that took place at the Rochester Auditorium on Monday evening, May 4, 1953.
A fun aspect of this poster is the listing of all the members of both bands... 15 names in all, including Gene Krupa, Teddy Wilson and (a misspelled) Cozy Cole. This was an expensive tour, no question about it, and reportedly the two clashing egos did not get along that well.
This poster has also been seen from Buffalo, New York, but it's unknown if it was ever used beyond those two cities. It would be a shame if this wasn't used for a countrywide tour, because it's definitely one of the best-looking 1950's jazz posters we've ever seen.
