Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers - The Penthouse, Seattle, 1960

Art Blakey's band the Jazz Messengers was active from the early 1950s until 1990 with an ever-changing line-up of talent, which produced more jazz stars than any other band of its era just think of Lee Morgan, Wayne Shorter, Chick Corea, Freddie Hubbard, Donald Byrd, Hank Mobley, Jackie McLean, Wynton Marsalis and many, many others. Here Art Blakey And The Jazz Messengers at The Penthouse for a series of shows in Seattle in 1960, from July 8 thru 17. The poster features an all action photo of Blakey playing drums with added information, at the bottom of the flyer, for future shows "Now appearing thru July 3rd Gary McFarland quintet" and "Coming...July 22...June Christy." His music remains, especially that made with his Jazz Messengers, a band with which Blakey created a musical style that is still able to excite and entertain the public. Because, as Chick Webb, the true King of Swing, had taught him, people are supposed to go and listen to music to forget their daily anxieties: "jazz washes away the dust of everyday life".
